California

Rules in Effect: Yes

Summary: In 2004, California became the second state to require UST operator training for what can loosely be called Class "B" and "C" UST operators. Training through certification is required every two years. California does not require training per se, but requires owners to designate a person as the principle UST operator who is certified by the International Code Council (ICC). Each designated operator performs a detailed monthly on-site inspection and provides on-site training to Class C employees. The operator must pass an ICC certification exam on California UST rules.

PTS Status: The CA SWRCB has declared that only a designated operator (DO) may train a class C operator and no other. So the PTS Class C course is available not not allowed as a stand-alone training option.
